Complex View Selection Formulas: Help Needed
December 11th, 2008 by Corey Davis
I need your help! What is the most complex, convoluted View selection formula you have ever seen? Why do I ask? Let me explain.
As you may be aware if you read this blog, follow me on Twitter or are my friend on Facebook, nsfRewind Beta 1 was released last week (if you want to be a beta tester there is still time to sign-up!). As with most beta’s there was one major piece that was not working: the ability to perform real-time audit’s of documents from a specific view. You can perform real-time audits of all documents in a database or specific documents, and you can schedule audits of documents in a view, but you can’t get real-time audits of documents simply by selecting a view and, to me, this is a major missing piece of functionality. What if I want to monitor all Program document’s in the Domino Directory? I don’t want to manually select each Program document because when new documents are added I will invariably forget to go back into nsfRewind to alter the configuration to include these new documents. That sort of defeats the whole “set it and forget it” mantra behind the product. Instead, I want to just configure nsfRewind from the beginning to simply monitor the Program document’s view.
Today, in one of those wonderfully ethereal moments of sheer lucidity were the problem not only comes into sharp focus but the answer quickly follows with whiplash inducing momentum, I realized how to bring this elusive feature to fruition. Or, at least, I think I have. And that is where your help comes into play. If you have used or created a View with a complex or convoluted selection formula I need your assistance. I would be very grateful if you could send me your wildest selection formula (unless, of course, you would be breaking an NDA, copyright, or some other such legal precedent that might get you in trouble). Besides the legal thing, the only real requirement here is that the selection formula actually works!
You can simply post the code here in a reply, or if confidentiality is required then please e-mail it. All submitted code will be kept confidential if e-mailed, and no code will be re-used in any way except to test my “eureka code” internally.
Thanks for your help!
