nsfRewind To Be Available June 1st
May 19th, 2009 by Corey Davis
nsfRewind, a field-level data backup and auditing utility for IBM Lotus Domino, will go Gold on June 1st. The utility tracks the entire life-cycle of documents in Domino databases and allows for alerting to be setup when specific documents or fields are modified, and also allows for individual fields to be restored from backup as opposed to restoring the entire database which is required today.
Two version of nsfRewind will be made available: Server Document Edition and Enterprise Edition.
The nsfRewind Server Document Edition will be made available absolutely free of charge. This version of nsfRewind can be used to backup and monitor any or all server documents in the Domino Directory.
The nsfRewind Enterprise Edition can also monitor server documents as well as any document in any Domino database. The Enterprise Edition will be licensed per Domino domain and pricing will be announced on June 1st.
With the ability to now monitor and restore field-level data changes, Domino will be more secure and user friendly than ever before. Currently, there is no built-in mechanism in Domino to monitor and alert on field-level document modifications. With nsfRewind in place, this auditing allows for a more secure environment by allowing sensitive fields to essentially have a trigger associated with them to send off an e-mail alert whenever they are changed.
As the entire life-cycle of a document is tracked, the ability to restore a single field in a single document becomes available. Today, Domino administrators are forced to restore the entire database from backup, find the correct document, and copy & paste it into the production database. Depending on the size of the database, the number of documents it contains, and how quickly the administrator can find the specific document, this process can take an hours. With nsfRewind in place, the process now takes minutes. Simply find the modified field’s previous value in nsfRewind and rewind the field. A single-click is all it takes!
