Talk Me Down: End-of-Life for First Generation iPhone Looming?

March 17th, 2009 by Corey Davis

Today Apple held their press event for the iPhone 3.0 SDK preview. There are some great things coming to the new iPhone OS, due to launch in the summer, but a comment by Greg Joswiak near the end of the event regarding the launch date of the OS caught my attention:
And we’re going to ship [...]

Time Machine Crash Resolved

October 26th, 2008 by Corey Davis

If you follow me on Twitter then you will know that I recently tweeted an issue in which Time Machine was failing causing my MacBook Pro to crash in what is essentially akin to the BSOD for Windows users.  The first time this happened I wasn’t even using the laptop.  The second time I was [...]

The Pointless Upgrade

June 10th, 2008 by Corey Davis

Today I got a popup letting me know that PGP Desktop for Mac had been upgraded. I downloaded it and looked through the readme to see what was new. Apparently nothing has changed in the last two releases:

I went ahead and upgraded, but I’m not really sure why.

ActiveSync Planned for iPhone from Beginning

March 7th, 2008 by Corey Davis

Yesterday was full of dissapointment and complaining about the lack of a mention of Lotus integration into the iPhone. However, it may be that Lotus never really had a chance to take part in the big show . Apparently Apple and Microsoft have been in talks to license ActiveSync [...]

To anyone who follows the tech news at all, and probably even if you don’t, you likely already know that Apple made several announcements today related to the iPhone . Keeping Your Mac Awake

January 31st, 2008 by Corey Davis

I don’t know about you, but I keep my MacBook on a pretty tight sleep schedule to conserve battery power. Even when plugged in it is set to sleep after a period of inactivity. But, when I am deep in the middle of work I am constantly switching back and forth between multiple [...]

iCal’s History and Future

October 17th, 2007 by Corey Davis

Here is yet another very interesting story from the guys at appleinsider.com. This one gives a nice historical overview of calendaring and scheduling on computers, appropriately starting with PLATO Notes, runs through the various releases of Lotus Agenda , Organizer , Notes, Exchange, iCal, and lesser known calendaring software, finally culminating in [...]

Mail.app’s History and Future

October 15th, 2007 by Corey Davis

Absolutly fascinating article on the Mac OS’ Mail.app. From its origins, through its history in the NeXTSTEP, and on through its future v3.0 release forthcoming in Leopard. Even if you do not use a Mac, it is an interesting read for those working in the e-mail market.

iBrick

October 1st, 2007 by Corey Davis

There seems to be an awful lot of complaining going on regarding the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware update bricking devices. Apple’s statement, in which they say that they will not fix or replace a bricked iPhone that was unlocked, is not helping matters. Now there’s talk of a class-action lawsuit. Are the owners [...]

Updating iPhone to Firmware v1.1.1 Not So Smooth

September 28th, 2007 by Corey Davis

Apple released firmware update version 1.1.1 for the iPhone yesterday, but I was just too busy to preform the update so I am just completing it now. It did not go so well. After downloading the 152MB update it began to extract itself. While this was happening, the iPhone preformed a [...]
