What is the MD5 Hash? While MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) has it's roots in cryptography, we and other software vendors use it to create a signature for files that we provide for download. Since each application and file is different, each has their own MD5 hash or signature. You can use this signature to ensure that the file you downloaded is the same file that we intended you to download and that there has been no nefarious interception or modification made to the file by an unknown person. Basically speaking, it is a way to ensure that the file you download is the file we provided and has not been replaced with a Trojan or virus. You will need an MD5 checker installed on your computer. We recommend the TSoft MD5 Checker. Once the MD5 Checker is installed and you have downloaded a file, you can then copy the MD5 hash that we provide and paste it into the MD5 Checker. Then point the MD5 Checker to the file you downloaded and it will let you know if the signatures match. Please also note that the MD5 hash is provided only as a courtesy and that you are not required to follow these extra steps in order to use our software. You can read more about MD5 at wikipedia.org. |
